Like other reviewers, I was fortunate enough to spend time in a conference room setting with Stan. I was astonished at how quickly he got so deeply into EXACTLY the things we didn’t want to talk about. (I was working for a famous global company, our division DEEPLY, if quietly, in crisis.) I was prepared for the usual string and sticky-notes facilitation. Instead the group walked into a highly considered and thorough process of exploring, uncomvering and re-membering where we all really came from emotionally, before we came to work. Stan handled all the “we hire only smart people” claptrap, attempted derision and sullen insurrection that came his way as people tried to wiggle away from the truth. He was poised, passionate, strong from the core, and could always come back with a deep insight, delivered so smartly (and often snarkily.) His intolerance for corporate-speak is obvious through everything — his clarity about emotion is deployed with deadly effect, and simply removes all the usual hiding places. I have never seen anyone as skilled at calling issues so precisely, certainly not in any therapeutic or remedial setting. If you cannot see Stan or his people in person, this book gets you as close as you can get to the real thing. His work is a huge gift to all of us at work, and as it turns out, at home. Thanks Stan.
