I plugged this into an older laptop and instantly got faster wireless speeds! Setup is virtually nonexistent; just plug it in and you’re pretty much good to go.

The Actiontec USB Network Adapter does what it’s supposed to do easily and seamlessly. So there’s not much to say there, other than it’s nice to be able to connect faster wirelessly with little effort.

Cosmetically, I do have a couple quibbles. I don’t like USB devices with removable caps. It’s just a pet peeve because I’m always worried I’ll lose it. I’d much rather it was attached in some way or if the USB plug was retractable or something. And I do agree with another reviewer that it would have been cool if this could double as a USB flash drive. I’m all for carrying as few things as possible and having this double as a USB drive would have been sweet. Other than that, it’s a bit large for my taste but now I’m just being nit picky.

I did appreciate that this came with a USB extension cable. This is good if you want to use this with a desktop computer but don’t want to contort behind it every time you need to plug it in. It’s also good for laptops if you’d rather run the cable behind your laptop and keep the USB adapter out of sight. As I said, it is a bit large and having a USB extension sticking out the side of my laptop is more appealing to me than this huge thing.

Bottom Line: this is an excellent high speed USB network adapter. Easy to use and easy to setup. It does what it’s supposed to do and does it well. But I docked it one star for design and personal pet peeves.

Water For Elephants is the story of ninety-something nursing home resident Jacob Jankowski, who reflects on the time he spent with the Benzini Brothers circus when he was in his early 20’s during the Depression Era. The story goes back and forth between those two periods of Jacob’s life. Old Jacob is clearly frustrated by the physical limitations of his aged body, and how small his world has become while living in the nursing home. Young Jacob joins the circus due to circumstances in his home life that are beyond his control, and the story goes on to describe the events that occurred during the time that Jacob spent with the circus as the staff veterinarian.

Sara Gruen writes with such rich detail. The sights, sounds and images she portrays are all so vivid that while reading this, I felt that I was transported to another time and place. I learned so much about what circus life was like during the 1930’s, and how disposable both human and animal life were to the circus owners. I was also very interested to learn that many of the happenings in the book are actually based on real-life events. The characterizations of the animals were particularly well-written in this book, too.

This book truly exceeded my expectations, and I am anxiously awaiting the release of the film!

Maybe this story has simply become dated over the years because it didn’t have the impact on me that I expected. This certainly isn’t on the level of Huck Finn, To Kill A Mockingbird, Life of Pi, nor even The Tale Of Depereaux, but it is different than anything else I’ve read. Perhaps the appeal of this book is that it’s written from the perspective of a teenager, in stylized teenaged writing, about teenaged issues. This could be one of those books that appeals more to a specific audience of those going through puberty than it does to the general reader. Still, Holden Caulfield seems like more of a whiner than a cynical adolescent to me.

Reading this book is like being stuck in an elevator with a sixteen year old boy for the duration. It might make for a good psychological study of that particular insanity that teenagers go through as their brains develop in the presence of an overdose of hormones, but as a story it lacks a plot. This is about a kid wandering aimlessly through his life, such as it is, both literally and existentially. It could theoretically give aid and comfort to those teens in a similar situation, but I can’t imagine it helping me much when I was that age. The main character is supposed to be a young radical, smoking and drinking despite being underage, but it all seems much too tame in these modern times.

I suppose that the moral of the story is supposed to be that everyone undergoes these psychotic teenage episodes, even the preppies. However, this point is made in a monotonous, rather repetitious and boring manner as our young angster wanders about NYC looking to rutt, having just been kicked out of yet another fancy boarding school. If the rich kids have these same problems then maybe we should all stop feeling sorry for ourselves and think about poor Richard Cory. It’s all just a little too ham-handed for me and it really bothers those kids who really were cool and all to have to listen to those who just think they are. Sometim

I wanted to give a positive review for this book amongst the recent negative ones.

When you read “Twilight” keep in mind it is a simple, light, young-adult read. It is not educational, it is not great literature that will be read in classrooms; It is just a nice, feel good story that sucks you in and distracts you for a while akin to plopping down on the couch and turning on cable TV after a long day.

With that said, I personally enjoyed the novel. I felt the plot was creative and the story sucked me in enough where I always wanted to see what came next. The relationship between Bella and Edward was touching and believable, and I felt emotionally invested in the story as the characters fell in love. The book made me feel high and happy for days after reading it.

I was a bit disappointed, as others have said, in the shallowness of the characters. In particular, I felt like a 100-year old vampire should have a lot more depth to him. I was hoping for more insight into Edward’s philosophy–how a character like Edward sees himself, the world and his relationships. But then again, the story was told from the point of view of a teenager and as a simple read, I imagined the author probably did not want to go into philosophy in the same way that Anne Rice did with her thought-provoking vampire novels.

I was hoping to see Bella really question herself and her relationship with Edward. And I desperately wanted to see a real suspenseful climax where Edward was overtaken by Bella in a moment of true weakness, and her life was seriously threatened by him–as a I felt the book forewarned many times but never followed through with.

All in all, I think the book served its purpose in entertainment. I did finish the series, but I found all the other books to be too lengthy, inconsistent and far-fetched for my taste. As a potential spoiler to anyone who may be clueless about what comes next.. I did not find the werewolfs to be a pleasing addition to the series. Once I read this

Don’t get me wrong. I love my Garmin 305 Forerunner, but I bought it instead of the 205 for the HRM. It’s SOOOOOOOOOOOOO tiny that it’s almost impossible to see, even standing still, let alone running.
