A novel relevant to teens today and one that will be relevant for years to come is The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. Taking place in the 1950s, the novel follows the narrator, seventeen-year-old Holden Caulfield, as he fails out of yet another prep school during his struggle to find his place in this world of “phonies.” He is stuck between childhood and adulthood, unable to make the transition, and fearing that he too will become one of these “phonies.” Through Holden and his predicament, Salinger portrays the theme of the loss of childhood innocence and fear of growing up that many teens experience every day.
As Holden encounters difficulties with roommates, relatives, and relationships, teenage readers can connect to his problems and understand his feelings and desire to remain young. He shares the confusions of sex, love, and overall morality, unable to understand what is right. Although some argue that the language of the novel is too harsh, profane, and perhaps unnecessary; it is through this tone that young readers relate. This abrasive dialogue helps to show that Holden is not some perfect prep school kid but an everyday teen who makes mistakes and fears what the future may hold. At first he seems to have a tough and almost rebel-like exterior, but as readers learn of his close relationship to his little sister Phoebe and the pain he feels concerning the death of his brother, it becomes evident that underneath the façade is a caring and loving heart.
A truly timeless work of literature, Holden and his dilemmas are a model for many. Highly recommended, Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye tackles the quandary that all teens face as they transition into adulthood, encouraging them to be true to themselves and avoid becoming just another “phony” of today’s world.
Pushing to the Front

This book is an easy read. It’s a novel, but definitely hints on reality. Segregation in the South was rampant and brutal.

It’s a scale, it works just fine, and it looks nice, too. Very solid. It’s nice to not have to tap it and then step on, it’s very instant.

I tried leaving no stars for this book, because this book doesn’t deserve one, but it wouldn’t let me, so I was forced to leave one.
This book certainly is a sign of our times. It shocks me that parents would even think that this book would be an accurate account of what God would preach. All I can say is that any Christian knows better than to believe this garbage. By the looks of the ratings of this book, there isn’t too many Christians reading it and unfortunately, many, many young people are reading it believing it as truth. Very sad!

When I first started to look for an HDMI cable at local electronic stores, the cheapest one I was able to find was $40. I was tempted to buy it right then thinking I wasn’t going to find anything cheaper, but when I went on my computer and searched for one on Amazon, the first cable to pop up was less than $3! I was skeptical to why they were so cheap, but the reviews were mostly great and I went ahead and ordered one. Even with free shipping, I received it in the mail earlier than expected. At first, I did have trouble getting it to work though. I was trying to hook my PS3 to my TV with the HDMI cable. I knew how to set the settings and everything, but I just couldn’t get the HDMI to display anything, but it did eventually work. All I can say is that this is how PS3 is made to be played! No more unreadable text, no more dark screens, and no more fuzzy picture, just a crisp and clear picture that has made all my games and movies much more enjoyable. I haven’t had any issues with the cable since, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I did seeing how it took me to get it working. If you’re skeptical like I was, take the chance and get this HDMI cable. Three bucks is worth the small gamble, heck I can’t go to a fast food place and spend less than $3 anymore! Buy this cable and you won’t regret it.

The Sport Spot makes a great “see me” helmet headlight, especially if you combine it with the Planet Bike Blinky “3H” 3-Led Rear Bicycle Light with Self Leveling Helmet Mount as a helmet taillight. With the Sport Spot, it’s fantastic to be able to point a light at drivers just by looking at them. Since the Blinky “3H” swings, it sort of flashes randomly without using the flash mode. (I use a separate flashing taillight attached to my backpack.) These lights are very light weight. I hardly know I have them mounted on my helmet. Most people who see me with them on my helmet think they’re great. These two should be sold as a combo since the headlight takes three batteries, and the rear light takes one, so you can easily recharge four NiMH batteries at a time. The only deficiency on the Sport Spot headlight is that it’s tough to get the mounting angle right with the limited places to strap it onto your helmet, so you might have to glue a little wedge on it to adjust the angle.

Another great night safety product is the Planet Bike BRT Strap Multi-Use LED Bicycle Safety Light. Nearly the whole strap (7″ x 13/16″ of it) glows or blinks bright red when it’s turned on — it appears as a yellow reflective surface when it’s off. It works great. It’s lightweight, easy to use and comfortable, plus fits in my hip-pack nicely. I use it as a leg-light (above my left calf) for night biking or late afternoon inline skating. Having a light move as you pedal, and highlight the left edge of your bike provides a major safety advantage.

If you bike much at night, do yourself and your loved ones a favor and get all three, the BRT Strap, the Sport Spot, and Blinky “3H”. I highly recommend all three of them.

I also strongly recommend a bright safety vest, jersey, or jacket for day and night biking. A good one can provide a dramatic reduction in scary incidents — people turning in front of you or coming by too close. I try hard to always use one — it makes an amazing difference — pe

With more and more devices using or requiring HDMI, it never hurts to have extra HDMI cables around, because you never know when you might need them. And at the value price these are offered, it’s hard to complain – especially for general purpose use.

I’m sure some high-end A/V fans may have reasons to object to these, but if you are not a high-end A/V fan, this will do just fine. I certainly like the price :)
